Helen King was born on January 1, 1944, in Georgetown, SC., and later moved to Jacksonville, FL. She was a caring daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who touched the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Helen was an amazing cook, and although SHE didn’t like to eat, she made sure whoever graced her doorstep never left hungry. Her doors were always open to anyone, and she would greet you with a smile, excitement, and a place to rest. Her selflessness and compassion were obvious because she always gave to others, even if it meant she went without. She managed to extend her time, and energy to all with unwavering kindness and empathy.
Helen was a skilled upholsterer whose work ethic was unmatched. She worked tirelessly to provide for her children, and to instill in them the values of hard work and perseverance. She absolutely loved to sew and was eager to get started on anything related to sewing. If you wanted her to sew anything, before she even received the item she would always say, “Once you told me what you wanted done, my mind started working.” She’s done commendable upholstery work for various companies, and people, who are still enjoying her work to this day.
On August 18, 2024, in Jacksonville, Florida, Helen passed away peacefully. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, kindness, and resilience will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Faithelle (Faye) White; sons, Wille E. White (Cheryl), Santago O. White, Marcus D. White (Jamie), Audacious C. White (Patricia); sister, Ramona Beal; brothers, Frank Reed Jr., Anthony Beal Sr., Charles Beal; mother, Bernice Abrams; grandchildren, Quintin (Amelea), Robert, Shannon, Crystal, Sirach (Chauncy), Edward, Santago, Miko, Chandler, Marichelle; numerous Great-Grandchildren including Chauncy Jr., Christina, Corrine, Caleb, Chadwick, Chiyah; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she loved very dearly.
Helen leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that will continue to inspire all who were privileged to know her. May her soul find eternal peace, knowing that she was a true caretaker of all who were blessed to be a part of her life.
Her last wishes were to be cremated, and have her ashes spread in a rose garden. She always said “Funerals are not for me, it’s for YOU. If you want to give me anything, do it while I’m here.”
