Obituary

With profound sadness and enduring faith, we announce the passing of Michael Alexander, who departed this earthly life on April 28, 2026. Though our hearts were not prepared for his departure, we take comfort in knowing that God, in His infinite wisdom, holds all power over life and time, and we rest in His unfailing grace.

Michael was born in Gainesville, Florida, on September 11, 1955, to the late Dirus Alexander and Bernethel Wilson Ferguson (Sidney). He began his education in Gainesville, Florida, attending Lincoln High School, and later moved to Jacksonville, where he proudly graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in 1974.

After graduation, Michael honorably served his country in the United States Army. His life was marked by dedication, discipline, and service. He later became a faithful civil servant, giving more than 20 years of committed service to the City of Jacksonville before retiring.

On June 21, 1980, Michael married the love of his life, Wanda McKinney, who preceded him in death. Their union was one of love, devotion, and commitment.

Michael was a fun-loving, hardworking man who brought joy wherever he went. He had a deep love for Motown music, was a talented dancer, and enjoyed sports and statistics. His warm spirit, sense of humor, and ability to make others smile will always be remembered. Above all, Michael loved his family deeply. He was a devoted son, father, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend.

Even in his passing, Michael’s life speaks peace and reassurance to those who loved him. He would want us to know that he is at peace, and with time, we too will be okay. His legacy is one of love, strength, laughter, and faith, and he would encourage us all to continue trusting in God’s unchanging hand.

Michael leaves to cherish his precious memory his loving children, Carlene, Yvonne, and James; his brother, Ronald Dean Alexander; and his sister, Ramona Alexander Buchanon. He was preceded in death by his sister, Blonice Alexander Britt. He also leaves behind a host of loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will forever treasure his memory.

Closing Tribute

Michael’s life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and his love a gift that will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit will live on through the lives he touched
