Arlene B. Coleman is a third generation funeral director, and presently the owner and Licensed Funeral Director in Charge of A.B. Coleman Mortuary, Inc. Arlene started her funeral service career with her uncle in Washington, DC at Johnson and Jenkins Funeral Home during her summer breaks while in college. Arlene is also a nurse. She has a BSN and MSN degree in nursing. Arlene relocated to Florida with her family and helped in the family business, A.B. Coleman Mortuary, Inc.; which was founded in 1981 by her father the late Rev. Dr. A.B. Coleman, Jr.. During that time Arlene saw the need to return to school to get her Mortuary Science degree. Arlene graduated from the Miami-Dade Community College in 1984. Arlene then returned home to help with the family business. She was one of the first instructors when the Mortuary Science program started at Florida State College of Jacksonville, and where she still serves on funeral board of the school. She is also involved in many organizations: Florida First Coast Morticians Association, National Funeral Directors Association, Independent Funeral Directors Association, Pi Sigma Eta National Morticians Fraternity, Sigma Theta Tau, Chi Eta Phi Nursing Sorority, Inc., Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
