Mrs. BETTY J. MATTHEWS made her heavenly transition on Wednesday, July 8, 2020. Mrs. Matthews was born on July 13, 1932 to the union of Frank and Anna Frances McClenic in Detroit, Michigan. Two Siblings were also born to this union, Shirley McClenic and Frankie (Jimmy) Black. Betty graduated from Northwestern High School in Detroit, Michigan an attended the Lewis College of Business, the first historically black college in Michigan. Betty accepted the Lord as her Lord and Savior at a young age, at Hartford Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan. Betty united in marriage with the love of her life, Rev. Dr. James Matthews, Jr. Betty enjoyed being with her family and traveling. Mrs. Matthews was the First Lady of Living Spiritual Temple Ministries and former First Lady of Shiloh Baptist Church, in Jacksonville, Florida and Shiloh Baptist Church, in Canton, Ohio. She was a great mentor and enjoyed teaching the word of God with her husband and Church Family. Mrs. Matthews was active in the choir. Her soprano voice will be missed. Mrs. Matthews was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was loved dearly and will be truly missed. Left to cherish her memory is: her husband of 69 years, Rev. Dr. James Matthews, Jr.; her three children, one Son, Gregory Matthews and two daughters, Linda (deceased, Richard) Willis and Karen (Samuel) Mann, Sr. Her seven grandchildren; Gregory Bates, Rochelle Robinson, Racquel (Kerrick) Butler, Samuel Mann, Jr. (Heather), Rheana Willis, Jericha (Robin) Williams and Micah Mann. Also, her 17 great grandchildren, niece, Khalilah (Leonard) Carlton and Goddaughters, Ella Smith, Sharon Bridges and a host of other relatives and friends.
