I remember Karl from when i was a family season ticket holder at Solent Stars basketball team in the early 1980’s. I got to know him well, and he arranged for himself and other members of the team to visit the junior school that my children attended. A very approachable man with a gentle nature off court, but tenacious and focussed on it.

I have just come across this posting while reminiscing and trying to find some of the 2old crew".
I am shocked and really saddened! I used to play for Solent Stars and alongside Karl when the Team was initially formed. I was 18 - he taught me a lot.....never could beat him, way too fast ;-)
Heaven just gained a great guard!

Today Dec 5th I just learned of Karl's passing. Needless to say, it is a very sad day indeed! Our paths crossed in England back in the late 70's early 80's. We both played for the Solent Basketball Club. Karl and I were very great friends and hung out, practicing the game we loved so much. We also were called upon by the owner Harry Smith(Karl's Best Man in his first marriage) to be the liaison between the teams and the community. Our time together was always easy because Karl was a kind, respectful gentleman. Many of us attended his wedding in Jacksonville. It was as beautiful as the bride and groom. I had never been to Jacksonville and enjoyed every minute there. The Tatham family will always hold a special place in my heart. Karl's infectious smile is forever emblazed in my mind and in my heart. Those days in England when we were young give me great memories today in my older years. Karl was taken way too young but I bet he is still a basketball extraordinaire under the guiding eyes of the Lord. Enjoy your Golden Wings Karl, you earned your eternal peace with the Lord. Until we meet again. love your friend, Eileen M. Dunn RN

My condolences to Karl's family. I met Karl coaching against his Knighthawks. We quickly recognized we shared a Queens, NY background and NY mentors. We became good friends. When I would see him at the airport he always had a firm handshake and a hug for me. He always wanted me to come coach with him. I regret now, that I wasn''t more assertive in doing that. I had no knowledge of Karl's pro career. He was a humble man that never spoke of himself. His legacy will live on in his children and the many young men & women he provided a life-foundation for. Our community was a better place because Karl was part of it. We will miss him

My condolences to Coach’s family and friends...I had the honor of being on his Jax Knighthawks bball summer league team all through high school in the early 90s...he was more than a coach, he was a great person and friend, almost an uncle type of figure in my life during these formidable years for me...and I never knew a player who did not like him...may he rest in heaven...until we meet again my friend...

I went to a basketball camp at Episcopal when I first moved to Jacksonville, and Coach Tatham taught me the importance of everything else around basketball like your attitude and your interactions with teammates. I am 42 now and when I would see Coach Tatham around, whether at the airport or in a gym, he always brought out a smile. Great, great teacher of life. He will truly be missed. Ron Milligan (Ohio)

I worked with Karl at American Airlines. He always had a big smile and an overwhelming dose of kindness. I had no idea that Karl had done so many amazing things in his life! He never bragged or talked about himself. He was always there to listen and bring everyone else up! I was extremely honored to know him and it was a joy to work with him! He was a pure soul - always a ready smile, never an unkind word. Karl was an inspiration to us all! He is lifted up with love and light, just as he lifted up all those who were blessed to know him!
