Stanley Brown Obituary

Stanley Eric Brown was born to Margaret Elizabeth Joyner Brown and Robert Charles Brown, Sr. on July 10, 1953. Stanley attended Duval County Public Schools and graduated from William M. Raines in 1970. Stan was baptized and attended Simpson Memorial United Methodist Church until college, and sometimes thereafter. Stanley was one of the first African American students to be admitted to the University of Florida (UF), in Gainesville, Florida from which he earned his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Psychology. Our parents loved him for his true, authentic self. Our parents preceded Stanley in death as did his partner, Scott, in 1996. During Stanley’s professional career, he counseled patients for various state and local agencies including the Urban League and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Stanley also enjoyed being a star salesman at JC Penney’s, Jacobson’s and May Cohen’s.

Stanley passed away on August 21, 2023, at home, after a long illness and was reunited with his parents, two siblings, who died shortly after birth, before Stanley was born, and his partner Scott. Stanley leaves to cherish his memory his three surviving siblings: Dr. Robert C. Brown, Jr.,M.D. (Retired), Dr. Allen J. Brown, J.D., Ph.D., and Patrice Margaret Brown, MA, Licensed Mental Health Counselor. Stanley leaves his niece, Sophia Elizabeth Hozid Brown, his sister-in-law Louise Hozid, Ed.D.; his nephew Robert C. Brown, lll and sister-in-law, Raquel Lopez Brown. Stanley also leaves a host of cousins that grew up with him in Jacksonville, FL including: Deborah, Dottye Joy, and Doris Vivian Parsons, Rubinya McCone Davis (Tom), Dr. Jonathan McCone (Bonnie), Beverly Cowser Austin, Brenda Sanders, and the Mitchell’s, Fleming’s, Cowser families, and his father’s surviving nieces, and nephews. Stanley also leaves Dr. Louis Dunbar, his life-long friend in the storms of life as well as the happier times. Louis was a supportive, loyal friend and remains like a brother to Patrice M. Brown. There are many more mourning Stan’s passing including Mrs. Alva Simmons who provided Stanley, and his parents with exceptional care, and still helps us in countless ways like a sister; and Dr.Daniel Cox, a long-term friend of Stan's and his family. We know there are a host of others, and you'll hear from the family at a later date. Stanley, We love you and miss you until we meet again.
