In loving memory of my dear Grandma,
Grandma was a phenomenal woman whose presence filled our lives with warmth and joy. Her cooking was a source of delight—her "poor man stir fry" and delectable desserts by candlelight will forever be cherished memories. She had a gift for self-soothing through mindful eating, soothing fragrances, and indulgent bubble baths, treating us to a spa experience whenever we visited.
Her beauty was not just in her stunning dark skin, high cheekbones, and radiant smile, but in the confidence and grace she carried herself with. I am proud to carry her legacy, reflecting her elegance in my own appearance and demeanor. She taught me to walk with pride, to hold my head high, and to embrace every moment with joy.
Grandma was immensely proud of her children and grandchildren, celebrating our achievements and displaying our art with unwavering love. I will always remember her joyful voice, especially how she called me "Roshanda" with a surprise and delight in her tone, making each conversation special.
Her love and support were constant, from the first to arrive at my wedding to every moment we shared. I will deeply miss her laughter, her smile, and her embrace. Though my heart aches with her absence, I find comfort in knowing that her legacy of love and joy lives on in us. Rest easy, Grandma. You have left an indelible mark on our hearts.
With all my love,
Rashanda

Oh Ms. Helen King! She was such a wonderful woman! The photo is from the first time that I met her. I stayed at her house in Florida with my dad and step mom. My first thought was, "Wow! This woman can talk a lot!" I don't remember everything that was said, but I do remember the sound of her voice and the sensation of love and warmth that I felt from her. It was as if I had known her my whole life, even though we had just met. She was so kind and loving, and I miss my grandma dearly. I will remember to treat myself to a nice candlelit dinner every once in a while like she said that she loved to do from time to time. Love you grandma!

When I’m asked why I wanted to be a chef, my grandma Helen was one of my major reasons. I remember when I was younger being in the kitchen with her, not only did I love tasting her food, but I genuinely loved how much heart she put into what she cooked. The food she created wasn’t just about the dishes it was the experience. My grandma loved candlelight dinners and serving meals on nice plates and bowls. I have to admit that I didn’t understand that as much when I was younger but I do now. The food that we serve is not just food alone. The food we serve should be served with love and care. I carry that with me to this day. I’m going to miss you very much grandma Helen thank you for awakening my love in becoming a chef.

I remember Helen, when I was a little girl, she use to make grass dolls and sew cloths for them. She was a great seamstress even then. I remember Helen when we were grownups, how she would cook and bake cookies and cakes, we shared many recipes together. I would often watch her do upholstery trying to learn from her, but it never took. But my most important memory of Helen was her kindness, generosity and love she, shown to my mother and to our family.. Rest in peace Helen you will never be forgotten. Love you. Linda.

This is one of the few photos I have with Mom Mom, and it’s my favorite. She wasn’t one for taking pictures, but the memories we made together are countless.
Growing up, I spent so much time at her house in Rochester, and after we moved to Florida, I couldn’t wait to visit her every summer. Those summers were filled with her lively spirit—watching movies, sewing at her shop, making oatmeal and tea at midnight, buying scratch-off tickets, cooking, teaching her how to play computer games, and of course, taking her mandatory baths several times a day.
Mom Mom taught me so much about life—how precious time is, and that you don’t need money to have a good time, just good food and good people. She showed me the importance of treating everyone fairly, but also standing up for yourself when needed. She always reminded me to clean up after myself and to never forget to enjoy life—like treating yourself to a candlelight dinner.
I love Mom Mom deeply, and I don’t say she’s missed because she told me she’s always with me when I talk to my Father. For that, I thank my Father for her. I’m also grateful to her for raising some of the most positive influences in my life—my talented Uncle Willie, strong Uncle Marcus, the super funny Uncle Audacious, and of course, my loving mom, Faithelle. Each of them carries a piece of the love Mom Mom passed on to everyone who knew her.
I love my family.
P.s. - watch Big Mommas House if you need a good laugh!

Words will never express the feeling I have now that you are not here! There are a lot of wise words that you’ve given me in life. There are two things I will never forget: 1) “We can’t change yesterday or today but we can always change tomorrow!” 2) “Always make sure you and your wife have a candlelit dinner and tell each other how much you appreciate one another.”
May the Lord bless us all to have you as a Guardian Angel!!
Your Grandson,
Tay

Remembering mom and how wonderfully she treated my mother with such kindness and respect and love, and after my mother passed, I was nervous that me and Mom relationship would be kind of distant, so I remember calling her and asking her even though my mother passed, can we still keep a good relationship? I don’t remember her words that she said, but I know it was good, and her actions said she heard me. And She sometime shared some parts of her life with me. She always use to tell me when I would say how far we came, “ you were the hardest one to raise.” I can truly say I loved you mom and I’ll miss you! rest in peace

Once I got my shop, Mom was a big help in getting the work out. I remember over the years her house use to be full of furniture that was waiting to get reupholstered. She was the best seamstress in the business. Back in the day she easily did the workload for a couple of shops.
