Jimmie Barnes Obituary

Jimmie Lee Barnes was born February 26, 1953 in Valdosta, Georgia to the late Mr. Letroy Barnes and the late Mrs. Julia Smith. In his early childhood he and his family relocated to Jacksonville, FL. He was a lifelong resident of the Northside of this city. He attended public schools in the Duval County Public School System. He is a graduate of Old Stanton Senior High School, Class of 1971. He was a former employee of Fox Meyer Drugs, Duval County Public Schools, and The City of Jacksonville. During his tenure with the City of Jacksonville he received several awards for his loyal and committed service. Jimmie was known for his love and attraction for drag racing. He had a great sense of humor. He was a natural born comedian and was also known as one of the neighborhood mechanics. Mr. Barnes departed this life on September 12, 2019. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Mr. Henry Wright, Mr. James Smiley, and Mr. Chester Bellamy; and four sisters: Mrs. Rosa Lee Walton, Mrs. Laura Turner, Ms. Patricia Grant and Ms. Almeta Denson. Jimmie leaves to cherish his memories, his life partner and "special friend" Ms. Betty Hudson; his one and only son, Aaron L. Barnes; two daughters, Ms. Nellie Hudson, and Ms. Lakeisha Smith; six grandchildren, Janiya Brown, Ariana Barnes, Ce'tia Hunter, Christopher Hunter, Josiah Smith, and Joshua Smith; one brother, Mr. Norris Barnes (Juanita); several nephews and nieces, Mr. Anwar Barnes (Ceicly), Mr. Samuel Brown, Mr. Emanuel Brown (Carla), Mr. Dwight Cooke (Deborah), Mr. William Turner, Mr. Mark Turner, Mr. Michael Turner (Sheeneka), Ms. Terry Turner, Mrs. Kimberly Quarles (Tony), Mr. Christopher Frederick, Mr. Nehemiah Fredrick (Chelsea), Ms. Delores Wright, Ms. Rosetta Wright, Ms. Tameka Banks, Ms. Tessa Beard, Ms. Chevon Grant, Ms. Velecia Gamble (Tony), and Ms. Shontell Brown; a host of great nephews and nieces, cousins, and other relatives and friends
